Cave Story RetroXMB: Launch Cave Story From PS3's XMB - Still haven't played Pixel's freeware game called Cave Story? Try it on your modded PS3 with this download!

Cave Story is a critically acclaimed indie platformer crafted by a Japanese developer called Pixel. The game takes players through mazes, bosses, and crevices as you work to get yourself off of a dangerous floating island. Its inhabitants are usually peaceful, but today they have come to attack! Uncover the mystery, make a few friends, and enjoy launching this modern classic straight from the XMB. Check out the release notes below!

I created two different types of installations for the RetroXMB. To show a POC of how small you can make your xmb booting rom packages. There is the "Light" package and the "Heavy" package. There are pros and cons to each. Its up for you to decided.

Light: 375kb [Requires RetroArch v1.0.0.2 to be installed]

Heavy: 5.77MB [Independent of Any RetroArch Installation]

Additonal Notes:

  • The light package has no guarantee that it will work with future updates of RetroArch (if installed). It should work and update your core as you install your new RetroArch updates in the future, but if there are changes significant changes to RetroArch, that could break features down the road. So that is something to consider if you plan to use the Light Package.
  • Also, there will be a bit more RetroXMB news coming in the next days or so stay tuned for more.
    • RetroXMB Beta 3 App (with new cores)
    • A new Tutorial for creating the smallest RetroXMB packages possible, with a bit of a mod from the official way.
