If you are fond of side scrolling games on your Sony PlayStation Portable, then you might want to check out this entry for this year's Neo Flash Spring Coding Competition. It's called Unofficial Cave Story: Return to World from the coder leviadragon.
There have been some unofficial games created before including the one that has been licensed by Variant Interactive. But the original Cave Story game was actually created by Daisuke Amaya (Pixel) as a freeware for PC systems.
Anyway, leviadragon's version also comes with a few unique features that are not present in other builds. The coder gives the following features as well as controls:
* The game is simple.here are 3 type of games:
o Catch the mimigas that fall from the sky
o Ride the Green Tea Dragon
o Escape From the Boss
* They are very intuitive , however these are the controller buttons:
* Button L for change level (at any time)
* Button R for 2 players
o Directional cross for moving 1 player
o Square, circle, triangle, to move 2 player
* Cross for confirm level selection
* It is possible to play with two players with only one PSP
* There is the succession of night and light
Those who want to give Unofficial Cave Story: Return to World should know that there two versions available depending on your Sony handheld. One is for PSP fat while the other is for Slim & Lite. Note that the latter doesn't have support for sound.
