WardRep gives citizens a way to easily find out which ward they live in, who their city councilors are & how to contact them directly from their phone.
WardRep is a collaboration project of Open Data "hacktivists" from four regional community groups in Ontario, Canada: OpenHalton, OpenHamilton, OpenGuelph and OpenDataLondon.
Background
-------------
Many of our cities provide only the most basic ward maps & councilor/mayor data as separate information; navigating through maps & various sections of city websites to figure out which ward you live in, and who your councilors are is not very intuitive. This and other experiences that citizens have with government data could be dramatically improved, by citizens, with very little additional cost for the government - if only the data were made open to everyone as "open data" WardRep is just one example of what is possible with Open Data.
