The Heart of Darkness Collection - His stories of adventure on the high seas have inspired numerous authors and filmmakers - Francis Ford Coppola based "Apocalypse Now" on "Heart of Darkness," Dan O'Bannon, author of "Alien", and James Cameron, author of "Aliens", each paid homage to Conrad by naming spaceships after characters in "Nostromo" - the Nostromo and Sulaco, respectively. Now, you can read ten of Conrad's most influential works in The Heart of Darkness Collection.

The collection includes:

• Amy Foster • Nostromo
• Chance • The Secret Agent
• Heart of Darkness • The Secret Sharer
• Lord Jim • Typhoon
• The ... Of The Narcissus • Under Western Eyes

Joseph Conrad was born in Berdichev, Ukraine on December 3, 1857. Orphaned at 11, he became a merchant seaman at 17, and sailed the world - Australia, the Indian Ocean, Borneo, Malaysia, South America, the South Pacific, up the Congo River and the East Indies. Serving on a British ship, Conrad learned English and became an inveterate Anglophile, eventually settling in Cantebury, England and becoming an English citizen.

"What makes mankind tragic is not that they are the
victims of nature, it is that they are conscious of it.
Joseph Conrad

Conrad produced his best known works starting in 1899 with "Heart of Darkness" and ending with "Chance" in 1913. He died of a heart attack on August 3, 1924, and was interred at Canterbury Cemetery, Canterbury, England.
