Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy - The story of Tess, a simple, naive English country girl who is seduced and bears a child out of wedlock. After marrying her true love, he rejects her when he learns of her past. She becomes once again the mistress of her former lover but murders him when her husband finds her and confesses he still loves her.
