Table of Nuclides - A table of nuclides is a two-dimensional chart that illustrates the different kinds of nuclides, which are the cores of atoms and consist of protons and neutrons. Depending on the number of neutrons in its nucleus, an atom behaves differently, even if you look at different atoms from the same elements (atoms of the same element but with a different number of neutrons are called isotopes). Only a few isotopes are stable; the others exhibit radioactive decay and can split into different nuclides. Isotopes of the "heavy" elements do not even have any stable isotopes at all! Bet it Helium or Uranium, you will find data about many different isotopes in this chart.
This table of nuclides has the following features:
- A large amount of data for any element from Hydrogen up to Copernicium
- A scrollable, zoomable chart which displays each nuclide's symbol, atomic number and mass number (the nuclides are ordered by neutrons on the x-axis and protons on the y-axis; the axes are displayed for orientation)
- Half lives and decay modes (the nuclides are colored by decay mode in the chart)
- A search bar to quickly find specific nuclides (e.g. "U238", "H3" etc.)
- A separate detailed view for each nuclide, including decay chains (click on a nuclide to get details)
