Palm OS Devices

Palm OS Auto-Installation
1. Save the downloaded zip file to your desktop on your computer. Open the zip after it is saved and extract all the files contained within to your desktop.

2. Double-click on the "_setup.exe" file that should now be on your desktop to start the automatic installation.

3. The Town Compass Installer window will appear. Make sure the "TC-DataViewer application" and "PRODUCT database" boxes are checked (you may uncheck the TC-DataViewer application box if you already have DataViewer installed on your device), then click on the "Install" button. If you have multiple users on your computer, select a User in the Install Tool window that appears and click "OK."

4. The full Install Tool window will appear with DataViewer and the selected Databases in the file list. Click "Done." Users with storage devices on their handhelds may change the Destination of the file before clicking "Done." Click here for details about Palm OS storage devices. A pop-up window will inform you that the listed file will be added to your handheld the next time you perform a HotSync operation. Click "OK."

5. Connect your Palm OS device to its associated port or cradle on your computer. Press the HotSync button on your device's port/cradle. The file will transfer from your desktop computer to your handheld. Open DataViewer from the Programs listing to view your DataViewer Databases. Palm OS Manual Installation
1. Save the downloaded zip file to your desktop on your computer. Open the zip after it is saved and extract all the files contained within to your desktop.

2. Go to your desktop. Double-click on the TC-DataViewer.prc (DataViewer) or a TC_PRODUCT.PDB (Database) file to add it to the HotSync Install Tool. If you have multiple users on your computer, select a User in the Install Tool window that appears and click "OK."

3. The full Install Tool window will appear with the selected file in the file list. Repeat the previous steps until all the .PDB and .prc files located in the downloaded zip file are added to the Install Tool -- you can also click on the "Add" button in the Install Tool to add the rest of the .PDB files, if any. Click "Done." Users with storage devices on their handhelds may change the Destination of the files before clicking "Done." Click here for details about Palm OS storage devices. A pop-up window will inform you that the listed file will be added to your handheld the next time you perform a HotSync operation. Click "OK."

4. Connect your Palm OS device to its associated port or cradle on your computer. Press the HotSync button on your device's port/cradle. The file will transfer from your desktop computer to your handheld. Open DataViewer from the Programs listing to view your DataViewer Databases. Pocket PC Devices

Pocket PC Auto-Installation
1. Save the downloaded zip file to your desktop on your computer. Open the zip after it is saved and extract all the files contained within to your desktop.

2. Connect your Pocket PC device to its associated port or cradle on your computer and allow it to sync.

3. Double-click on the "_setup.exe" file that should now be on your desktop to start the automatic installation.

4. The Town Compass Installer window will appear. Make sure the "Town Compass DataViewer application" and "Town Compass PRODUCT" boxes are checked (you may uncheck the DataViewer application box if you already have DataViewer installed on your device), then click on the "Install" button.

5. The Add/Remove Programs window will appear and a popup window will ask "Install PRODUCT and other pending installations using the default application install directory?" Click "Yes" to install the file to the Pocket PC device's RAM. Users with storage devices on their handhelds may change the destination of the file by clicking "No" and then selecting "Storage Card" from the dropdown menu that appears. Click here for details about Pocket PC storage devices. A pop-up window will inform you to check your mobile device screen to see if additional steps are necessary. Click "OK." Check your Pocket PC's screen and click "OK" in any popup windows located there.

6. The files have been transfered from your desktop computer to your handheld. Open DataViewer from the Programs listing to view your DataViewer Databases. Click here for how to view the product on your handheld.

Pocket PC Manual Installation

2. Connect your Pocket PC device to its associated port or cradle on your computer and allow it to sync.

3. Open ActiveSync on your desktop computer. In the ActiveSync window that appears, click on the "Explore" button.

4. A Mobile Device folder directory window will appear. Open "My Pocket PC" by double-clicking on it. Users with storage devices on their handhelds may then open the directory called "Storage Card" if they want to move the files to their storage device. 5. Use your mouse to click on the DataViewer.ppc.arm.cab file and any TC_PRODUCT.ppc.cab files on your desktop (ignore the .ini Configuration Settings files) and drag them all to the Mobile Device folder directory ActiveSync Explore window (which should now be in "My Pocket PC" or "Storage Card") you just opened in the last step. A pop-up window may appear noting that ActiveSync will need to convert the file. Click "OK." Close the ActiveSync Explore window.

6. The files have been transfered from your desktop computer to your handheld. Go to your Pocket PC device and click on the "Start" menu in the top left corner of the screen and select "Programs," then open "File Explorer." Navigate to the "My Device" directory using the dropdown menu near the top left of the screen. Tap on the "DataViewer.ppc.arm.cab" file to run the installation. DataViewer will be added to your "Programs" directory. Now tap on the remaining TC_PRODUCT.ppc.cab files in turn to run their installations.

Microsoft Smartphone Devices

Smartphone Auto-Installation
1. Save the downloaded zip file to your desktop on your computer. Open the zip after it is saved and extract all the files contained within to your desktop.

2. Connect your Smartphone to its associated port or cradle on your computer and allow it to sync.

3. Double-click on the "_setup.exe" file that should now be on your desktop to start the automatic installation.

4. The Town Compass Installer window will appear. Make sure the "Town Compass DataViewer application" and "Town Compass PRODUCT" boxes are checked (you may uncheck the DataViewer application box if you already have DataViewer installed on your phone), then click on the "Install" button.

5. The Add/Remove Programs window will appear and a popup window will ask "Install DataViewer and other pending installations using the default application install directory?" Click "Yes" to install the file to the Smartphone's RAM. Users with storage cards in their phones may change the destination of the file by clicking "No" and then selecting "Storage Card" from the dropdown menu that appears. Smartphone Manual Installation
1. Save the downloaded zip file to your desktop on your computer. Open the zip after it is saved and extract all the files contained within to your desktop.

2. Connect your Smartphone to its associated port or cradle on your computer and allow it to sync.

3. Open ActiveSync on your desktop computer. In the ActiveSync window that appears, click on the "Explore" button.

4. A Mobile Device folder directory window will appear. Open "My Smartphone" by double-clicking on it. Users with storage devices on their phones may then open the directory called "Storage Card" if they want to move the files to their storage device. 5. Use your mouse to click on the DataViewer.spv.arm.cab file and any TC_PRODUCT.spv.cab files on your desktop (ignore the .ini Configuration Settings files) and drag them all to the Mobile Device folder directory ActiveSync Explore window (which should now be in "My Smartphone" or "Storage Card") you just opened in the last step. A pop-up window may appear noting that ActiveSync will need to convert the file. Click "OK." Close the ActiveSync Explore window.

6. The files have been transfered from your desktop computer to your handheld. Take your Smartphone off of the sync connection, and power your phone down and then turn it on again to "refresh" the program listings (if you have a reset button on your phone you may use that instead). Open the Programs menu and select the "DataViewer.spv.arm.cab" file to run the installation. DataViewer will be added to your "Programs" menu. Open the Programs menu again and select each TC_PRODUCT.spv.cab in turn to install the product files. Note: You may also use a file management program, such as File Explorer, to browse to the .cab files and open them there.

7. Open DataViewer from the Programs menu to view your DataViewer Databases. If you don't see DataViewer, power your phone down and then turn it on again to "refresh" the program listings (if you have a reset button on your phone you may use that instead).
