Backstep - This is a simple utility that will toggle the backlight of a Compaq iPaq from Off-Low-High-Low-Off each time it is run. There is no user interface, it just does its job and exits. I have assigned it to the record button on my iPAQ, so that I can easily toggle the backlight off and on whenever I wish. Just copy the file to the Program Files directory using Active Sync and tap it to switch off and on. To assign a button to it, put a shortcut to the Backstep.exe file in the WindowsStart Menu. Then you can use the Buttons setting to assign the program to any of the Compaq's buttons. This program will turn off the Automatic setting on the Brightness control panel when it is run.
