Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is an unexpected death due to cardiac causes occurring in a short time period (generally within 1 h of symptom onset).
Main causes, among others are ischemic heart disease, nonischemic cardiomyopathies, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, valvular diseases, congenital heart diseases and primary electrophysiological abnormalities.
It has been estimated that SCD claims more than 7,000,000 lives per year worldwide. SCD survival depends on the presence of individuals who are competent in performing Basic Life Support!
