TrackMeTweet - uses the built-in GPS, or a Bluetooth GPS (recommended for cellphone battery life) to send regular tweets of your location to Twitter.
The Tweet info contains your identifier, distance from take-off in km, coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, altitude in meters above sea level, speed in km/h, direction you are heading at that specific moment.
Followers ( = recovery drivers or fellow pilots) can check on your location and find you once you have landed.
In case of a crash, everyone with twitter access, can look at your last location data, and from there determine where to find you.
Twitter allows many people to look for you, compared to SMS based applications, which usually send your location only to one person.
Can also be used in competitions.
Create a Compxx twitter page. And have pilots report their location via tweets to the twitter page.
Instead of using a SMS gateway. One can put an application that would check the twitter page for updates and link this to Goggle maps, for example.
Pilots can report down and safe, and recovery status via the PRS, Pilot Recovery System with tweets.
