This application was created as an entry for the 5K App competition and weighs in at precisely 5120 bytes. It allows you to use your GPS-enabled mobile phone to zap your location across to a friend.
This could be useful when trying to direct somebody to your house, or to arrange a rendez-vous in a pub; any time when the alternative is reading out lengthy lists of directions over the phone.
A 140-character text message can be attached to the location. When your friend receives it, the application will start automatically, and then the location can be saved in the phone's landmark store.
On devices with built-in mapping, such as the Nokia Series 60 range, the location can then be easily viewed on a map.
How it works
The application begins by getting a GPS fix on your phone. Then, it accesses your phonebook and allows you to choose a contact to send it to.
At this point, you can press the left soft key to attach a short message to the location.
The application then sends all the information via SMS to your contact. Upon receipt of the SMS, your friend's handset will launch the application automatically. If your friend doesn't have the application installed, in most cases it will appear as a regular SMS.
After launching automatically, the application looks up your number in the phone book so that it can display the name of the person who sent the location. Left soft key allows you to view the short message, and fire allows you to save it as a landmark (this will have the contact's name attached to it).
Enjoy! Any feedback or bug reports gladly received.
