The Room With a View Collection - If you're a fan of the Merchant/Ivory film classics "A Room With a View" and "Howards End" you are going to love reading the two E.M. Forster novels on which they are based. "A Room With a View" is about a young English girl, Lucy Honeychurch, who travels to Florence, Italy along with her prudish aunt, Charlotte. At a small hotel, they are assigned rooms without a view of the river Arno. At the same hotel are staying the Emersons, father and son George, whose rooms do have a view of the Arno, and whose hearts and minds are open to the world. Lucy and Charlotte swap rooms with the Emersons, and soon Italy begins to cast its spell on all of them, igniting a spark between Lucy and George.
"George had turned at the sound of her arrival. For a moment he contemplated her,
as one who had fallen out of heaven. He saw radiant joy in her face, he saw the
flowers beat against her dress in blue waves. The bushes above them closed.
He stepped quickly forward and kissed her."

"Howards End" is the story of two intertwined families, the Schlegels and the Wilcoxes. Whereas the Schlegels are intellectual and devotees of art and literature, the Wilcoxes, with the exception of the mother, Ruth, lead lives concerned with "neatness, decision, and obedience." The story is set in motion when Ruth wills her beloved country home, Howards End to Margaret Schlegel.
