Send to Card makes any Send-aware application export its data to card. It can be invoked in any application using the system "Send" command, i.e. most built-in applications and a lot of third party utility software.
Send to Card simply writes data to a file. You can adjust the filename and folder. The standard folder for a given file type is used by default (e.g. DCIM for photos).
One could think there is no point in sending application data to a file, it is in some file already, isn't it? Wrong! A lot of alm applications store the data internally in their own format (the palm database) but use a different "external" format for exchanging data between devices. "Send to Card" enables you to export the data using this "external" format and keep them on the card.
For example:
Application - Palm database - External file format
Memos - MemoDB.pdb - *.txt - any text editor can open this
Contacts (AddressBook) - ContactsDB-PAdd.pdb (AddressDB.pdb) - *.vcf - common VCard format recognized by most email software
Calendar (Datebook) - CalendarDB-PDat.pdb (DatebookDB.pdb) - *.vcs - recognized by desktop PIM software
Tasks (ToDo) - TasksDB-PTod.pdb (ToDoDB.pdb) - *.vcs - recognized by desktop PIM software
Treo Ringtones - MIDI Ring Tones.pdb - *.mid - standard MIDI music file
Treo Ringtones - Ton-*.pdb - *.amr - sampled ringtone
By saving these data in files you can make backups, transfer the data to a computer or just test the data exchange without a second device acting as a receiver.
Some applications, like Palm Media or the built-in Launcher, support card files, and there is "Copy to Card" option even without my "Send To..." extension, so it does not add much functionality, except that "Send to Card" allows you to select the filename and folder instead of using the default folder all the time.
