64 MB Backup Card Plus Update - The Palm 64 MB Backup Plus Update requires the following minimum system requirements:
Palm Zire 71 / Tungsten C, T, T2, or T3 handheld
- And -
PC running Windows 98/NT 4.0/2000/Me/XP
- Or -
Mac OS X (version 10.1.2 or higher)
- Or -
Mac OS 9 (version 9.1 and higher)
This update addresses an incompatibility discovered between the 64 MB Backup Card Plus and Zire 71 and Tungsten Series handhelds. The incompatibility creates a condition where backed-up data cannot be restored.
This update replaces key application files on the 64 MB Backup Card Plus and cannot be reversed once applied. However, the update will not delete nor modify any previously backed-up data on the card.
Once the update is complete, the backup data on the card can be successfully restored, and successive backups can be restored without issue.
Important: This update is ONLY for users of Zire 71 and Tungsten C, T, T2, or T3 handhelds who use the 64 MB Backup Card plus. Applying the update to other handhelds and/or to other expansion cards was not tested and may cause loss of functionality.
If you are a Windows user, follow these steps:
Ensure your device is fully charged.
Ensure the backup card has at least 200K free and is inserted into the device.
Download the BackupPlusUpdate.zip file
Extract the BackupPlusUpdate.zip file using a standard unzip utility. Note the location where the directory/folder is extracted.
Launch the Palm Quick Install application on your desktop computer.
Ensure that the correct user name is selected in the User list.
Click the Add button.
Locate the following files in the directory/folder noted in Step 4 above and double-click on each one to add it to the Palm Quick Install tool:
Backup Plus.prc
Backup Plus_deDE.prc
Backup Plus_enUS.prc
Backup Plus_esES.prc
Backup Plus_frFR.prc
BackupPlus_itIT.prc
Backup Plus_ptBR.prc
BPlusUpd.prc
IMPORTANT: Ensure that you install the files to the expansion card and not to the handheld.
Place your handheld in the cradle and synchronize your device to the computer. The Backup Plus Update will be installed onto the backup card.
On your device, launch the BPlusUpd application from the "home" application launcher screen. Do not remove the card during the update process.
A dialog box will confirm when the update is complete. Once complete, you should safely eject the backup card.
To maximize the space available for backups on the backup card, you should delete the BPlusUpd application. From the "home" application launcher screen, tap the on-screen Menu button and choose "Delete" from the App menu (or enter /D in Graffiti 2). Change "Delete From" to the backup card, tap once on BPlusUpd in the list of applications, then tap the Delete button. Confirm your selection in the Delete Application dialog box to finish.
Launch the Backup Plus application.
You can now successfully backup and/or restore
