The Pride and Prejudice Collection contains three Jane Austen novels including the first two she wrote "Pride and Prejudice," and "Northanger Abbey". Written in 1798 when she was 21-years-old, they weren''t published until 1813 and 1818 respectively. "Persuasion" was her final novel written in 1816, a year before her death, and published posthumously in 1818. "Persuasion" and "Northanger Abbey" were the first works published under her name, all her previous works were published anonymously as befitted a young woman of her class.
"Pride and Prejudice" has been made into several films including the 1995 mini-series starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Helen Fielding used both "Pride and Prejudice" and her infatuation with Colin Firth to create her 1998 novel and 2001 film "Bridget Jones''s Diary." "Persuasion" was made into a movie starring Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds in 1995, the same banner year that three other Austen-based films were made: "Sense and Sensibility," "Emma" and "Clueless". "Northanger Abbey" was turned into a British miniseries in 1986.
"Pride and Prejudice" is the story of the four Bennet sisters and their attempts to find true love. "Persuasion" is a tale of love lost then re-found, and "Northanger Abbey" is an homage to the gothic romances popular at the turn of the 19th century.
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in
possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife."

Jane Austen
Considered the mother of the modern English novel, Jane Austen hardly ever left her house. The seventh child of a country rector, she was born in the tiny English village of Basingstoke in 1775 and, following a brief stint in Bath, the Austen family settled in the village of Chawton where Jane lived out the rest of her life. She died in 1817 at age 42 after contracting tuberculosis. Austen wrote about what she knew best - minor landed gentry in varying economic circumstances and struggling to maintain or enhance their social standing. While all her heroes and heroines were preoccupied with courtship and marriage, Austen herself never married.
