Remember that sweet homebrew shooter with ASCII graphics for the Sony PlayStation Portable? Homebrew developer jabbyjim has updated his Ascii Attackers from Hell, now version 1.1 which is compatible with 3.xx custom firmwares and has functional pause buttons.
Ascii Attackers from Hell is a homebrew game that may look simple on the outside, but has mechanics which can keep you on your toes. When you miss enemies in this shoot-em-up, they can lay mines and make life a lot harder. There are also three levels littered with the invaders that you'll have to live through.

As much as homebrew games cover almost all genre, there are those that seem to be the favorite of the community and even by the developers themselves. One good example are space-shooters which will definitely never go out of style. Recent ones that come to mind include WebFest v1.0 and Birdman's Shooter.
