We've got tipster Faceweed to thank for this homebrew release we've just picked up, titled ExtulPSP. This application, as its name implies, is a PSP port of the Exult framework.
This will enable handheld owners to play Ultima VII: The Black Gate, Ultima VII Part 2: Serpent Isle, and the Forge of Virtue and Silver Seed expansions.
But while plenty of classic RPG fans will take a shine to this release, the author does note that ExultPSP v2.1.6.26 is not without some big problems. Quoting Phantom Fighter's original post:
* Serpent Isle isn't playable in this public release
* Exult has quite the appetite for memory which slowly increases and increases as you play. Eventually, the PSP will be able to provide no more, resulting in a crash (it will however let you know that it has run out of memory). So you'll have to save your game occasionally. Despite this, you should be able to get decent stretches of gameplay before this happens.
* Do not suspend your PSP while ExultPSP is playing. I haven't yet accounted for sleep mode, and doing so will wipe out critical memory - I don't want to guess what kind of catastrophe can ensue because of it. Just quit ExultPSP before you shut off or suspend.
Before you start on your first in-game adventure, be sure to view the file readme for other important details you'll need to know. Phantom Fighter also hints that possible new releases will include major bug fixes, although we'll just wait and see what the future holds. Enjoy the download.
Once again, kudos goes to Faceweed for the tip!
