Flashing the PSP should be done with caution - you'll never know how your PSP is gonna react. But if you've taken the courage to go ahead and install a flashing app, sometimes eventhough you were lucky not have bricked your PSP, you realize you're not really that lucky because you don't really need or want the application. Then you go ahead and recover your handheld's settings.
Before you go and run a recovery.elf file on your PSP, you might want to try out this appliucation by jasonuk. According to his Custom Firmware Recovery.ELF Tester's README file, "This app allows you to test a recovery.elf before you go ahead and flash it to your PSP. It executes recovery.elf on the root of your MemoryStick."
