  Project4 Open

Homebrew developer Auraomega sent QJ.NET an email informing us that Project4 lives on. As a matter of fact, the coder had already worked on and had released Open Beta 3 for this Sony PSP XMB replacement.

According to Auraomega, it is true that the source code were lost at college but he was able to find a backup taken the day after release of Open Beta 2. The coder added that the secrecy involving the project was due to the possibility that he may not be able to update it enough.

Anyway, that's all in the past now and Open Beta 3 is now here for the taking. The following changes were implemented by the coder in this build:

* Added a boot sound.
* Added an option to turn the bootsound on or off.
* Added an optional filebrowser background, perfect for people who find their normal background doesn't go well in the filebrowser or gets in the way.
* Added a clock.
* Added the ability to move the clock around the screen.
* Changed the code to load the EBOOT menu when entering a folder with an EBOOT.PBP inside, only applies if using the "Request" option.
* Allowed the icons to be varying sizes, giving the ability to customise the menu even more than before. Icon sizes are determined during bootup, so no editing in the config required.
* Moved the selected icon to the centre, instead of the first.
* When playing music, album art can be showed as long as Folder.jpg is present in the directory.
* Added M3U playlist support, which works in all directories above or below unlike previous versions.
* Added the "Low Key Music Player" which is like a very basic version of LightMP3 installed in the flash, when booting up the PSP if you press the left shoulder button it is loaded, and plays music in the file ms0:/PSP/MUSIC/LKMP.m3u. The clock speed is drastically reduced, making this a good option for those who use their PSPs as their main mp3 player.
* Added some notes saying how to save, and how to temp save the config.
* Changed the about screen to make it appear neater, and compacted the lists.
* Centralised the menus (mount, request, extended) which looks neater, also changed the colour scheme for them.
* Updated the default config written to comply with the updated code.
* Added a [#] to each of the options that do not yet work, these are mounting of flash3, XMB loading, and resetting the PSP.
* Added a device mounter that can mount:
o Flash0:/ (read mode only)
o Flash1:/
o Flash2:/
o Disc0:/ (untested but should work)
o Host0:/ (assuming RemoteJoy or other plugins are loaded)

Auraomega is also reminding everyone that users of Project4 Open Beta 3 should have enough space in their flash0 to avoud problems. Also, be sure to browse through the documentation before doing anything.

IconPackIconPack
IconPack  Icons have it bad. They're just sitting there in your file explorer window, looking pretty as, well, an icon. But their life is a tough one to live. Because people (much like you or me) would rather give them a make over so that it's easier to organize stuff. Compare the before and after shots above. See? The undead compiled a little nifty IconPack v0
RcomageRcomage
Rcomage Rcomage is a general RCO manipulation/creation tool, which I hope, will replace RCO Editor (and potentially rcotool in the future). It's a CLI (command-line interface) however I've provided a simple Windows GUI to save you from remembering commands (though you may need to trawl through an XML file)
Blue Vista OrbsBlue Vista Orbs
Blue Vista Orbs  Saizn has released a pair of new XMB icon sets on the QJ forums. These sets feature icons based on the Windows Vista start orb and are available in both blue and red
Icon Action ReplacerIcon Action Replacer
Icon Action Replacer  As most of you guys probably noticed, XMB hacking is all the rage right now -- thus the downpour of all these homebrew apps that tweak and tinker with XMB properties. But even though we already have tons of such apps in our arsenal, we're gonna bring you one more just so you'd have a wide range of stuff to choose from
CXMB 5.50 GENCXMB 5.50 GEN
CXMB 5.50 GEN  As its name suggests, this is a beta version. You see therefore the absence of a useful function CXMB: the list of available themes in your memory card. Indeed, in this beta version, the list is not displayed. This will be fixed soon in the final version. Meanwhile, an alternative method is possible to solve this problem
PSX Icon PackPSX Icon Pack
PSX Icon Pack  Loyal QJ fan and talented homebrew dev Xaniseth has released PSX Icon Pack v.1.00 for the PSP. This app has all the icons and backgrounds in the proper resolution and saved as .PNG files. When using a program such as Popstation GUI you can simply choose from Xaniseth's pre-prepared icon sets
Ico ApplicatorIco Applicator
Ico Applicator PSP homebrew developers Jojodu0010 (Duck-hunt) and Marc6310 (To The Top) have just announced the release of a new application, titled Ico Applicator. This app will allow users to change the icon that their PSP's memory stick displays when it's hooked up to a PC, and carries 60 different icons to choose from
Topmenu GeneratorTopmenu Generator
Topmenu Generator Yesterday uberOne unleashed his Topmenu Generator on the PSP homebrew community. Topmenu Generator, in case you forgot already, generates topmenu_plugin with custom icons for the xmb. This app does not help with the flashing process of the topmenu_plugin and requires another application such as filer or Xflash
