Formed by Congress in March 2006, the Iraq Study Group was tasked with conducting an independent assessment of the situation in Iraq and its surrounding area, and with proposing strategies for the way forward. The Study Group met with a wide variety of stake holders including military and intelligence officers, academics, journalists, and high-level government officials including George W. Bush and members of his cabinet, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, former President Bill Clinton, and Iraqi officials Jalal Talabani and Nouri Kamal al-Maliki.
The report contains 79 specific recommendations for rebuilding Iraq's economy and infrastructure, improving its security, and maintaining stability in the region. This report should be required reading not only for every U.S. citizen, but for every citizen of the world.
