Psiloc TinyGPS enables receiving information about location of your phone in your GSM network. It also shows name of your current location (if your GSM operator provides it).
You can teach your phone locations which are important for you like: home, school, work, train station, church etc. Then you can set up events based on entering or leaving chosen location. For example your phone can automatically switch profile to Silent when you come home. If you commute to work by train you can set up alarm which will wake you up when you arrive to the train station even if your train is late!
Installing TinyGPS
Please try the application before buying.
When you run TinyGPS for the first time it will ask you whether you want to enable cell broadcasting you have to answer Yes in order to use the application. Then you have to restart your phone.
If you have any valuable data on your phone please backup it before installing TinyGPS.
Supported phones
We tested TinyGPS on Orange SPV e200 and C500 but it should work on any Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone application unlocked. If you are successfully using TinyGPS on other phone please tell us about it.
TinyGPS works only on HTC devices (SPV, SDA etc). It doesn't work on MPx200 and MPx220. We are investigating the problem. Stay tuned.
Main window
Main window shows your current location (bolded) and information about cell you are logged in (if your GSM operator provides it).
How to change current location?
Press Change, choose desired location from the list and press Assign. You can add new, edit or delete existing location by choosing appropriate option from the right menu.
How to teach my phone?
Since in big cities you are usually in range of a few network cells (even when you stay in the same place) your phone should learn them all. Choose Menu>Learn. Select location you want your phone to learn, time of learning and press Start. All cells you are logged in during that time will be assigned to selected location.
Events
You can create events based on the location you enter or leave. To set up new event choose Menu>Events and Press New. Select action (enter or leave), location and desired action. The action can be one of the following:
Change home screen - changes home screen to chosen one.
Change profile - switches to desired profile.
Play sound (alarm) - plays chosen wav file.
Power off - switches the phone off.
Vibrate - makes your phone vibrate.
Notify - notify you when you enter or leave specified location
Switch Bluetooth - switches Bluetooth on/off/discoverable Settings To change application settings choose Menu>Settings.
If you do not want TinyGPS to run on startup you can turn autostart off. However, remember that events trigger only when TinyGPS is running.
You can switch to advanced mode which gives you access to more sophisticated options (see below).
In advanced mode you can set size of cell log or turn logging off.
Advanced mode
In advanced mode on main window you can see actual cell id and area code provided by your GSM operator.
In Log Window you can also see n last cells your phone was logged to.
Send Application
Now you can send the application to your friend. Go to Menu->Send Application->via Bluetooth/IrDA and follow the instructions, after that the installation file will be send. On the destination smartphone go to the directory where you've stored the cab file (typically 'StorageMy Documents') and run it from there - that's it!
If you don't have any file explorer software on the smartphone, write this string in the address bar of Internet Explorer:
file://StorageMy Documentstinygps.cab
Check out our free addition to TinyGPS - Psiloc Home Screen. It shows your location and cell information provided by your GSM operator on your Home Screen.
