MetroCard TopUp is a utility calculator that allows you to easily determine the minimum amount to add to your NYC Transit MetroCard that qualifies for the 15% discount and won t leave a significant unusable excess balance on your card.
Given the latest fare structure and funding options on MTA/NYCTA MetroCard machines, it s very difficult to know how much of an amount to add to your MetroCard without leaving a balance that is too small for a ride. While adding more funds will roll this balance forward you still are left with a residual unusable amount. MetroCard TopUp allows you to avoid this. Calculating the correct minimum without the aid of this calculator is further complicated by the limitation that additional amounts need to be rounded to five cents.
