Setsuzoku no Puzzle Developer stravingo has been picking up our attention lately, given the level of quality the man's homebrew games carry for the DS community. Now, in case the gamers here are wondering what his latest project is, we're happy to announce the release of Setsuzoku no Puzzle v0.1 for your pleasure.
Translated as "Puzzle of connections" in English, this game is a based on Tamtex's Match-it arcade puzzle game from 1989. The object of this game is for the player to remove all tiles onscreen by connecting matching tiles (color and symbol). The two tiles must have a clear path between them, and must only have two corners (turns) separating them. For the PS2 owners, you'll probably remember a similar mini-game featured in Suikoden 5.
The game runs under a time limit (180 seconds for our test), although players can slow this down by connection star and moon tiles found in-game. These tiles also have a the bonus of connecting with any tiles of the same shape, irregardless of their color.
Delving into the more elaborate mechanics, the game's time limit decreases for each successive level, challenging players to double up their brainstorming the more times they win. In case you do find yourself in a bind, pressing the "X" button lets the game erase one pair of tiles for you - you get three "stars" (attempts) for every round. You gain an extra star for every stage you clear without using this "cheat".
stravingo notes that there's plenty to do even after this playable release, such plans for a high-score list, better graphics, and small game innovations. That's all to report for the moment, although we hope the guys enjoy the download provided here.
