Mail[E] - PhoniAe'ied Mail[E] is a mobile phone application that communicates with your company's Microsoft Exchange email server, so that you or your employees can access corporate email from their cell phones. Mail[E] is targeted at on-the-go professionals who do not have a mobile email device, but still want to read and respond to their email while on the road. The application runs on most new phones being sold today, and because it works directly with the existing corporate Web mail portal, users can download and use the application without the need for the IT staff to deploy a gateway server. In addition, the solution is secure (using https directly from the phone to the corporate server) so there is no concern about sensitive email going through an external hosted server.
While some phones have email clients built in, the majority of them do not work with most companies' Microsoft Exchange servers. New high-end devices support ActiveSync to interface with Exchange; however, these require the latest version of the Microsoft Exchange server, which many companies have not yet deployed. Mail[E] is available today and works with the current email infrastructure.
For the user
Mail[E] is a solution you can download and run yourself, without needing your IT department to install a new server or requisition a special mobile email device. It runs on many of today's standard phones, for most wireless carriers' networks, and will usually work with your existing Exchange mail server. Best of all, it is very affordable, with a single low purchase price and no ongoing email subscription fees, other than the cost of your wireless carrier's data plan.
Mail[E] is a client for the Microsoft Exchange mail server. If you are using Outlook to get your mail, then your server is probably Exchange. Also, Mail[E] requires Outlook Web Access, which is the web interface to Exchange. If your company supports this, you will have a Web site that allows you to read your email from any PC on the internet. Some companies have a gateway screen, which logs you onto the corporate network before you can get to Outlook Web Access. If you need to enter two different usernames and passwords, or need to enter a code from a password card, then your company uses a gateway. Unfortunately, Mail[E] does not yet work for servers with a gateway. Check with your IT team if you are not sure if you have Exchange with Outlook Web Access.
You will also need a wireless data plan. These are available from most wireless carriers, check with your carrier for details. Because email traffic can use a lot of bandwidth, we recommend an unlimited data plan, which many carriers support. If your carrier does not support unlimited data, then we suggest the highest volume plan available
