PocketConsole - Why should you need a text based console on the Pocket PC?
One point is porting software from other platforms to the Pocket PC. There are still lots of stdio-based programs out there, especially on the Unix platforms. Porting such programs to the Pocket PC will be much easier if you can write a "main" program and use the standard c-runtime functions instead of writing message loops.

Another point is testing/debugging. You can use PocketConsole for debugging your standard Windows/MFC based applications. Yust sparkle debug messages as printf functions in your source code.

If you run your application, PocketConsole will open up a console window and display there your messages. This will be much faster than using OutputDebugString calls. Since the PocketConsole window lives in another process address space than the debuggee, these printf's will in most cases not interfere with your application.

PocketConsole is a software which provides a console device for Pocket PCs. Consoles manage input and output (I/O) for character-mode applications (applications that do not provide their own graphical user interface).

Such programs are still wide spread in the Windows and Unix world. For example, the command prompts command.com on Windows 9X/ME and cmd.exe on Windows NT® are character-mode applications. Also, many of the open source projects from GNU are console based character-mode applications.

Microsoft provides a console for Windows CE H/PC (Handheld) computers. Implemented on those devices is also the Windows CE® command prompt (CMD). However, no console device is implemented on Pocket PC or Pocket PC 2002 platforms.

This is PocketConsole's raison d'etre. And moreover, PocketConsole has all the advanced features of the Windows NT console. Since PocketConsole is full compatible with Microsofts Windows CE device driver model you can run any character-mode application written for Windows CE Handheld's on your Pocket PC without modification.

On the applications page you can download some character-mode programs which run on PocketConsole.

If you are a Pocket PC software developer, then PocketConsole will simplify porting console mode applications from Windows and Unix to the Pocket PC.

What's New in This Release:

· Changed: The PocketConsole menu in order to be more conformant with the PocketPC design guidelines. (You will find the Close button under the Tools menu.)
· Added: QuickEdit button at the command bar.
· Added: On line input you can use the stylus to place the cursor.
· Fixed: the dwControlKeyState member of the INPUT_RECORD structure delivered a bogus value.

GPSBot - This small application seems to solve the problem with TomTom navigator 7, iGO8 and other navigation programs, that shows a position of several meters back from the real one in some new devices. Simply copy the file to the folder where the navigation program executable resides and launch this application instead of the real program
BackstepBackstep
Backstep - This is a simple utility that will toggle the backlight of a Compaq iPaq from Off-Low-High-Low-Off each time it is run. There is no user interface, it just does its job and exits. I have assigned it to the record button on my iPAQ, so that I can easily toggle the backlight off and on whenever I wish

Run - Run is a utility that lets you run an application by entering parameters at the command line, just the the desktop "Run...". What's more, it only takes up a tiny amount of memory if you have the PocketC runtime. However, the functions are quite limited, this program is only for people that need to use it

VJTrayLaunch - This program is used to launch any application from the Today Tray. VJTrayLaunch is only for launching a small number of apps. Don't use it for 15 etc (due to the 32 task limit on WM). This is a command line application, and can be used to launch any program or shortcut
