Q: What is Receiveit?
A: Receiveit is a program that enables your palm device to receive an 'unknown' file format which is transferred via IR or Bluetooth.
Q: What do you mean by 'unknown file format'?
A: Every file type transferred via IR or Bluetooth must be registered first before it is handled by certain application. Palm OS handles an incoming file by identifying what type the file is, and then look into a register table to determine which application should handle the file. (There are file types that pre-registered on every palm device. For example: .txt registered to Memopad, .vcf to Address, and so on) If Palm OS can't find what application should handle the incoming file, then it will show you an error message: "unknown file format".
Q: Hmmm.. it's not very clear to me, please give me an example.
A: Imagine that you need to copy a file from your friends notebook, and you only carrying a Palm OS device. Let's say it's a .RAR file (rar compressed file). It's unlikely that your device have an application that can handle this file type. If you try to accept this file, you would get an annoying message: "unknown file format", and the file couldn't be copied to your device.
Q: Okay, now how does Receiveit solve the problem?
A: There are two methods Receiveit can solve this problem.
a. First solution: Receiveit register itself to handle certain file extension (the extension entered by a user), you can access this feature under Receiveit's "Default App" form as well as any other files that are not handled by any application will be handled by Receiveit.
b. Second solution: 'on-the-fly-mode' (OTFM). Once you launch Receiveit and open the OTFM form, EVERY incoming file WILL be handled by Receiveit.
Q: You said Receiveit will handle the file. What do you mean by 'handle'?
A: Receiveit will store the file onto your device. (Note: Receiveit cannot open it)
Q: Then, where will Receiveit store it?
A: Receiveit is able to store onto your expansion slot (SD CARD, MMC, etc) or onto its internal RAM. User can choose where they prefer to put the file to.
Q: Internal RAM? Do you mean that even I don't have any SD Card/MMC, I'm still able to use Receiveit to store received files?
A: With Receiveit 3, Yes, absolutely. It would especially helps user that owns a device without having a SD Card/MMC.
Q: Ok. But what can I do more with the files that are saved by Receiveit?
A: You are able to delete, rename, and send it to another device via IR/Bluetooth, or copy/move the file to your PC via hotsync. What you need to do is open the Receiveit's file manager and see the user friendly menu for what Receiveit can do for you.
Q: That sounds great, especially feature that enables me to copy files from handheld to PC. Does that mean that only files received by Receiveit can be transferred to PC?
A: No. You can transfer ANY file in your expansion storage or RAM that using 'Receiveit format'.
Q: Can you explain what Receiveit format is?
A: 'Receiveit format file' is designed to enable your palm device to store files that's not in palm format in internal RAM. As we know that internal RAM can only store databases. Receiveit does encapsulate these file in Palm database format (.pdb)
