  PMP VLC

Many have been wowed by jockywoo2001's PMP VLC because of its ability to play media files from the memory stick and from Optixx's PMP Server via WiFi. The app's ability to play media files transcoded and streamed from VLC 0.8.5 via WiFi, eliminating the need to first manually transcode and copy files to the memory before you can access the media files is also one reason why PSP owners have been taken by PMP VLC. Now, with v0.o.9, jockywoo2001 makes sure there are more reasons to continue loving the PMP VLC Player.

The latest version nopw has hardware video decoding support. How is this a wonderful thing? With the supplied VLC 0.8.5 plus x264 support for PSP, you can now see live TV and DVDs on your PSP in high quality...meaning 25 frames per second and in full screen (480x272)! The awesome additions to v0.0.9 doesm't end there. Rest of the changelog goes:

1) Scaling now works correctly (pressing start during playback toggles screen mode if picture resolution < 480x272).
2) Pressing right trigger in main menu now connects to network and the IP address is shown.
3) Up to five video and five music directories can be added in pmp.ini.
4) Network path no longer displayed in filenames, except for the selected entry.
5) The supplied VLC 0.8.5 package automatically installs the required pspfiles.html file.
6) Solved several vlc and net directory buffer issues where there was nonsense at the end of the listing.
7) The supplied VLC 0.8.5 can be used to encode video files, DVDs, live streams, capture device sources etc. to AVC avi files.
8) Fixed a bug where the previous track in the playlist was played again.

Now, you must note that there is a bit of difference in the installation procedure for this new version. Here are the news steps:

1) If you have another VLC version installed, first uninstall it and make sure to delete preferences and cache (delete directory c:Documents and Settings"yournamehere"Application Datavlc).

2) Install the supplied VLC 0.8.5 on your PC. The file is called vlc-0.8.5-psp-x264-win32.exe in the VLC directory of the distribution. Jockywoo2001 notes, "Sorry this is for windows only. Someone has to (cross-)compile versions for Mac and Linux. Maybe if I have time I will do it myself."

3) On windows create a shortcut to vlc.exe where target looks like this: "D:Program FilesVideoLANVLCvlc.exe" --extraintf=http (note that your path may be different from the one provided by the developer). On other platforms make sure that vlc is started with the parameters: --extraintf=http

4) copy the PMP VLC binaries to your PSP (/PSP/GAME/PMPVLC009_JockyW and PMPVLC009_JockyW%)

5) Edit pmp.ini and copy it to /PSP/GAME/PMPVLC009_JockyW

6) Copy the file VLC-ENABLE.AVI (in the VLC directory of the distribution) to your memstick in /PSP/VIDEO/.

Take note that because of the inclusion of the modified VLC 0.8.5 (which you needed to download separately before), the download of PMP VLC is now at 10MB. If that's no problem, go ahead and click on the downloads below. Just make sure to check out the readme file to get more info on how to tinker this cool app!
