Oy vey. It seems our read and write speeds are slowing down today, as we missed this new app mentioned on the Exophase forums by a couple of hours (or a lot... we never got the hang of checking timezones). Sebzzz's BlackSPEED v1.0 is actually a pretty useful app for comparison and diagnostics purposes.
BlackSPEED is basically a benchmark analysis device on your PSP. It determines the read and write speed of your memory sticks, and compares it to the original 32 MB Duo Pro stick that came with the PSP. That being said, the performance index bases its numbers relative to the Duo Pro, which registers as a 1.00. Your performance will be twice as fast as the Duo Pro if it shows up as a 2.0, thrice with 3.0, and so forth.
Sebzzz notes that the program won't brick the PSP, but there's a small chance that you could lose some of the data on your memory stick, hence the reason for calling this a beta. The app runs on 3.03 OE-A, and should presumably run on other firmwares, though you'll have to check that out for yourself. For now, check the readme for installation instructions. We'll definitely be watching out for a new version of this application to make its way online,. Enjoy!
