The H.P. Lovecraft Collection - He is one of the fathers of fantasy, horror and science fiction, and H.P. Lovecraft is also the inventor of the Necronomicon (the book at the center of the Evil Dead Triology) and the Cthulhu Mythos, which has inspired such writers as Terry Pratchett, Roger Zelazny and Stephen King. Now, you can read 63 of Lovecraft's most famous stories in The H.P. Lovecraft Collection, including such works as "The Call of Cthulhu," "The Color Out of Space," "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" and "Herbert West: Reanimator."
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born in 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island to the daughter of an industrialist and a traveling salesman. When he was three, his father suffered a nervous breakdown and was committed to a mental hospital, where he died five years later. Lovecraft was raised by his mother, two aunts and maternal grandfather. Just before his high school graduation in 1908, Lovecraft suffered a nervous breakdown, and became a virtual recluse for the next five years.
Lovecraft's mother suffered a nervous breakdown, and died in the same mental hospital as his father. In 1913, Lovecraft was coaxed out of hibernation by an offer to join the United Amateur Press Association, and his works soon began appearing in the "pulps". He established a wide correspondence with other writers, including Conan creator Robert E. Howard. Howard's suicide in 1936 severely disturbed Lovecraft, who was diagnosed with intestinal cancer soon after. H.P. Lovecraft died on March 15, 1937.
