Born in 1856, L. Frank Baum was a theater manager, newspaper publisher and reporter, store keeper and traveling salesman before publishing "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" in 1900. He died in 1919.
Johann Wyss''s "Swiss Family Robinson" is the story of a family shipwrecked on a deserted island, who must struggle to survive. They build a fabulous tree house, discover edible plants, make wonderful animal friends and fight off frightening beasts who also inhabit the island.
Johann Wyss was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1743 and wrote "Swiss Family Robinson" as a companion piece to Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe", which was a favorite of his family. It was published 1812 and Wyss died in 1848.
In "Peter Pan", Peter takes the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael, from their cozy London bedroom to Neverland, home to the fairy Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys and the dastardly Captain Hook. Originally written as a play, "Peter Pan" premiered in 1904.
Born in Scotland in 1860, James M. Barrie was one of eleven children. Following a stint as a newspaper reporter, he created "Peter Pan" as a play, which premiered in 1904. Barrie died in 1937.
In order to read The Boy's Collection on your Pocket PC, you must have the Microsoft Reader installed. This reader is included with most Pocket PCs however, if you don''t have it installed, check your Pocket PC's web site or the Microsoft web site to see if the reader can be downloaded. Because the Collection is downloaded in a zipped format, you must first unzip it using either Winzip or Stuffit Expander on your PC.
