Let's take a break from E3 for a moment now and focus our attention on something much closer to home. silenoz of PS3Hax has got some cool tricks up his sleeves, and it's thanks to this tricks that he managed to launch a simple java game on the PS3 game OS, with BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java) functionality.
Say what?!? Yes, it's an honest to goodness breakthrough, and we can just imagine all the wonderful possible exploit that could come out of this hack. But first, before we drown in our own drool, details on this hack.
silenoz apparently used the game with BD-J functionality. If in case you're as much of a noob as I am on this, BD-J basically allows bonus content on your Blur-ray disc titles. In other words, it gives that little extra to your copy to totally pawn the standard DVD by allowing you network access, picture-in-picture and access to local storage.
Okay, so here's the tutorial for you to launch the game, homebrew style:
* Un-Zip file
* Copy it to the root of a USB/Flash drive
* Go to the device in the video menu and launch "AVCHD"
* Go to BONUS and click GAME to launch Blaster Bunny.
This has been confirmed to work on all PS3s regardless of firmware and region - even 2.41. If you don't believe still, then ask the dishes watch this video clip of Blaster Bunny BJ-D in action on the PS3.
Thanks a heap to tipsters: Hueh, tcraw77813
