Firmware 2.80 Downdate for TA-079 and TA-081 PSPs The holiday season has been one to watch out for every PSP homebrew freak. Not only have we had Dark_AleX's newly released custom firmware, but we've also been witness to an unknown (until now) in the scene who just cracked open kernel mode in firmware 2.80. Funny how every kernel mode exploit brings a downgrader before you're even expecting it.

This time is no different. 0okm has released a firmware 2.80 downgrader out of the blue, which has taken all of us here by surprise too! And while the usage is a little more difficult than Dark_AleX's generic downgrader, it does work fine, and that's what matters in the end, right? Alright, enough of talk, here's what 0okm had to say:
if you dont know how to use, Don't use it !!!

This Program Just For FW2.80 TA-079~081 PSP
Don't use it on other ver. PSP !!!

So please take care before running the downgrader. It can and will brick your firmware if you're not careful with it. And rightly so. You see, this downgrader simply copies over a 1.50 dump from the ms0:/DOWNDATER folder, just like the earlier downgraders used to. Here's the full usage instructions:

1. Run Dark_AleX's "FW2.60 DownDate helper" on a 1.50 firmware PSP to Dump 1.50 firmware.
2. Run FW150IPL_Dumper (inside the download below) on 1.50 firmware PSP to dump the IPL to ms0:DOWNDATERPRXFW150_ipl.bin
3. Run FW280DownDate4TA-079 to downgrade your 2.80 PSP to 1.5.

Unfortunately, TA-082 users will again find this useless. To all those who downgrade their TA-079, TA-081 PSPs to 1.5, you can either check out Devhook, or you can upgrade to 3.02 OE-A which is one of the hottest downloads on our site currently.

While the method may sound a little difficult, the good thing is that you can use your friends' firmware dumps without fearing a brick. While we won't recommend that since it's illegal, we do know that a lot of our readers rely on that method just to be on the safer side. If you're one of them, expect to see the Easy Downgrader modified for this firmware soon.

Finally, here's the download link. To all the people here, Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays from everyone here at QJ!
