AmplituDS (Non-media version: SMB remix) Sander Stolk, who also goes by the name "Dark Knight ez" has just released AmplituDS. It's a homebrew that features music as a gameplay element. The game is based on Amplitude for the PS2.

If you would recall, Amplitude is an arcade-style rhythm game that allows players to mix and remix hit songs. It may be quite confusing to the uninitiated, but to rhythm game freaks, it's one addictive game.

AmplituDS aims to capture the same exciting gameplay on the DS. The music alone is already an added sweetener, but to actually make it a part of gameplay is one sure way make the game as engaging as the game it's based on. It also has two different views and players can opt to use the touch screen control if they want to. What's more, there's an option to insert own music and/or target layout. This just means you can groove to your own music while you control your ship and shoot down targets.

Ingame controls are fairly easy. The D-Pad's left and right buttons are used to control the movement of the ship. Left and right shoulder buttons plus the X button are used to shoot targets. The B button changes the view.

Stolk has put up an online readme file so, anyone who wants to check out AmplituDS can access instructions on how to set up the game. Those who want to add or alter game stages would have to wait a little bit longer as the media-card user version of the game is not yet available. Advanced users should refer to the Amplitrack section of the online readme for further details.

Expect more music and stages, as well as gameplay elements in the next version of the game.
