MancalaDS Some of you might know Lotti as the creator of Joggle DS, the Boggle simulator for your Nintendo handheld.Well, he's released a new game called MancalaDS for folks to download and tweak at their leisure.
For those who haven't heard of this game, Mancala is a pretty old game, with the earliest records to it dating back to the 6th century AD. In the game, you're supposed to move shells around a board, trying to capture as many as you can of your shells and the opponent's on your base, which is usually on the sides of the playing field.
The basic rules for this one are the same, with players using the stylus to pick one of the holes on his side and dropping them counterclockwise around each hole on the board. Each shell, stone, or whatnot that ends up in your holding area (the places at the sides) is a point towards you.
Now, Lotti has put in two different difficulty levels for people to try out:
Easy: The AI will first try to do the best capture move. If it isn't available, it wil do a random move.
Normal: The AI will first try to do a perfect move, then try the best capture move. If they aren't available, it will do a random move.
It seems simple, but believe me, the random attacks your AI opponent can do will often screw up your battle plans. It's actually more challenging than a real player because it doesn't do things logically when it has no options. Of course, we leave your style of play to you, and we wish you all the best. Just remember to give props to Lotti on a job well-done, and let him know of any bugs for future revisions.
