If you've been keeping up with this year's Neoflash Spring Competition, then here's two more entries that should get your mouth watering: the very excellent Polygunwars from ahrimanes, and the very quirky Nikwi Deluxe from deniska. Let's check out both homebrew titles and see what they have to offer in terms of originality, playability, and all-around awesome factor.
So, first off, Polygunwars. A clone of the very addictive and very exciting Geometry Wars, this one sports the same funky neon graphics, the same trippy explosions and music. It's pretty much a very awesome clone of a very awesome shooter, and it definitely plays well.
Here's the changelog for version 0.5:
* recoding of the enemy system for the seek of optimization
* you will experience a better movement of the elements
* bullet system has been modified to fell like we really play in an analog.
* if you press TRIANGLE 0,CIRCLE 90. the bullet system will shoot some bullets in 25 and 36 to fill that range.
* all GFX totally redrawn (learned to make them glow, thanks youtube.)
* when you get killed you can see who kill you.
* new FX for the BOOM(press L)
* now we have Geometry wars sound track.
* now we have Geometry wars SFX.
* new enemys: Red blackhole, pinkbox, pinkyboxy,blueseeker.
Next up is Nikwi, a platformer that's as simple as it is cute. Players step into the shoes of 9-year-old Nikwi, a 9-year-old boy with a penchant for jumping and candy. Guide him through thirty candy-filled levels, but be warned - there will be monsters to make your dream a living nightmare. So be sure to nab those treats before they come and get you.
If you're puzzled as to how to install or play these two gems, then all the answers you need are in the readme files bundled in the downloadable archives, so be sure to give them a look through. Enjoy!
