While hunting whales on the open seas isn't an ecologically accepted practice, blasting them using nuclear warheads on the virtual handheld seems safe enough. At least this was the premise developer Mr. X 256 had for the latest homebrew game on the PlayStation Portable.
The beta release of Nuke the Whales is basically a simple top down shooter of dropping irradiated warheads on the titular creatures. This Lua-based game is in its initial stages so far and features an endless level of whale exterminating with a running tally of points to keep track of your kills.
Nuke the Whales has been tested on both the PSP Phat and PSP Slim, running on custom firmware 3.71 M33. Hopefully, the developer will be able to create a more refined version of the game in future updates.
For more details on how to install the program into you handheld, you can take a look at the Readme.txt file bundled with the homebrew game.
