Mobile Assault - arcade game, fly on the map in a helicopter and destroy opponents.

It's only been a couple of weeks since 1.4, but Justin and I figured we've added some important changes to justify a 1.4.1 release. The first fix is to address the rare crashes that we were getting on startup with iPhone. Basically there was a thread race condition that we couldn't fix without totally ripping the guts out of the current code. I personally still don't understand why what we had before never worked, but we're pretty sure this fix will be the end of this particular issue. The other fix is to do with AI. Turns out that instead of a tank trying to find a target 5 times a second, it was doing it 100 times a second. With lots of tanks on the map, that's a lot of CPU being used unnecessarily. We're currently exploring better ways to manage large numbers of units and projectiles, so hopefully we can squeeze a few more FPS out of the game.

Changelog:
  • Improvements
    • AI optimisations.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed updating of particle effects.
    • Final fix for crash on startup on iPhone.

    Installation:

Copy the directory 'mobileassault' into your games directory. For CFW 3.52 M33-4, it is PSP/GAME352 but will likely be different for each CFW. If you are upgrading from a previous version, be sure to back up your mobileassault.db before copying the new folder over.

    New Features:

  • New Chinook helicopter unit.
  • One new mission.
  • Added three new building structures.

Improvements:

  • Varied tree sizes.
  • New Apache texture.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed crashes in the 'Recon' mission
  • Fixed crash when certain numbers of units were destroyed.
  • Fixed bug where an in-game message could remain showing for too long.

Hoover Maneuver If cleaning our rooms were as fun as VgSlag's Hoover Maneuver, we actually do it more often. We may even rediscover the floor beneath all those game covers and magazine and scattered game controllers (CRASH! A friend of one of the QJ staff members just tripped on a controller wire and nearly crushed his DS. "My DS! Nooooooooooooooo!")
PSPoolPSPool
PSPool You must have noticed too that there are a lot of developers opting to leave the scene for a little while (And we say that with crossed fingers...), there are also those that - thank all the circuit gods - are staging a huge comeback.
