DS81 noddybox has updated his basic Sinclair ZX81 emulator for the Nintendo DS. DS81 v1.1a only supports text modes games using the bog-standard ZX81 display file. Don't even try playing hi-res games using this emulator. They just won't work...yet. That's right, noddybox is working on a version that allows playing of hi-resolution games! Aren't you excited?
Meanwhile DS81 v1.1a currently supports the loading of external files from a FAT formatted device. To do this the internal FAT routines of libnds are used. If your device isn't supported you are limited to the the built-in games which include:
* ZX81 ROM 1981 Nine Tiles Networks Ltd * Mazogs 1981 Don Priestley * City Patrol 1982 Don Priestley * Sabotage 1982 Don Priestley * 3D Monster Maze 1983 Malcom E. Evans
The change log for DS81 v1.1 includes:
* Added external FAT file loading * Added Mazogs as a built-in tape * Fixed bug where the ROM input routine could be easily locked up
And for DS81 v1.1 to v1.1a:
* Fixed hideous mess up that was the keyboard fix
The binary distribution has a version for flash cards that expect a Gameboy Advance formatted image. If ds81.nds doesn't work, try ds81.ds.gba instead. Finally, please read the instructions file for this app. It includes everything you need to know to run this homebrew emulator on your DS.
